All things Soft Buffalo Lawn!

Soft Buffalo Roll on Turf

SOFT, DURABLE AND LUSH! LET’S DELVE INTO EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SOFT BUFFALO LAWN…

WHAT ARE THE FEATURES OF SOFT BUFFALO LAWN?

Buffalo turf is unmatched when it comes to keeping its colour and resistance to stress compared to other types of lawn in Perth.

This particular variety of grass is also known for its dark rich green colour and its soft and lush texture that retains its colour in partly shady conditions and during the winter months.

Soft Buffalo is also a non-itchy species developed as an alternative to the tough or original buffalo varieties

Characterised by smaller leaves and stems, buffalo grass is much more tender and soft to the touch which makes it the perfect coverage solution for kids’ play areas, backyards, lower traffic areas, partly shaded areas, as well as residential or smaller applications.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE ADVANTAGES

  • It handles heat well which is ideal considering the harshness of the WA climate
  • Needs little water or fertiliser once well grown
  • Can survive cold winters
  • Doesn’t need to be mowed often, usually once a month
  • Needs only three to five hours of sun per day to flourish
  • It can be established by seed, plug or sod

IS IT EASY TO INSTALL AND MAINTAIN

The installation process of buffalo lawn is known to be relatively simple considering that the thickness of the roll is just 35mm.

MOWING

In order to maintain the appearance of this particular kind of grass, it should ideally be mowed every 10 to 14 days at a height of approximately 8 to 12mm throughout summer. Whereas during winter we suggest mowing buffalo grass every 3 to 5 weeks and raising the mowing height to approximately 12 to 16mm.

WATERING

As soon as you have installed your new buffalo lawn we suggest applying at least 20mm to 30mm of water so that the soil underneath the grass is saturated. When your turf is established, frequent and shallow watering is recommended as the roots will only grow as deeply as its most available water supply.

Whereas deeply rooted buffalo grass has a larger ‘soil-water-bank’ that it can draw moisture from which helps your lawn to survive during dry and hot conditions that rapidly dry out the upper soil layer.

FERTILISING

Our team recommends using a slow-release fertiliser to fertilise your lawn once a month after installation. Once your grass is more established, you can then apply fertiliser during April and early September.

If you want to add an extra pop of green to your turf throughout the year, applying a fertiliser that is high in nitrogen will work well to promote lush-looking grass!
