Interesting Lawn Facts & Tips
Turf Facts and figures from the Lawn Mowers Association.
Although the Wintergreen variety is more commonly utilised within commercial applications due to its hard wearing characteristics, it is also suitable to many domestic applications, especially in tougher environmental conditions. The Wintergreen lawn is ideal for high wearing areas such as golf courses, tennis courts, bowling greens, parks and gardens, sports ovals, soil stabilisation areas, roadsides, urban in-fill areas or where hard wearing or close mowing is required. With its low maintenance qualities it is also great for your rental property or home!

20 Inch Plate Compactors
A twenty inch plate compactor (available from most hire places) is also useful in installing Wintergreen lawn, to ensure it is properly adhered to the ground, considering its thinner characteristics. Joondalup Turf's experts recommend this method for 40 metres of lawn or more, within 20 hours of laying the lawn.
QUICK TIP: A serrated bread knife is a trick of the trade, in easily cutting the lawn around sprinkles and other obstacles, as well as being a much better tool to handle effectively.
Winter Green Grass Maintenance
Wintergreen grass should ideally be mowed every 10-14 days at a height of approximately 8-12mm during summer. In winter it is ideal to mow the lawn every 3-5 weeks and raise the mowing height to approximately 12-16mm. It is good to ensure all lawns are fertilised going into winter, as well as ensuring the lawn is watered regularly for the best results.
QUICK TIP: To prevent issues caused by the heat of summer or during high stress, ensure the lawn is mowed regularly and fertilised to reduce seed head formation.
